About the Item

ANACHAR BASBOUS Untitled, 2021 Steel Sculpture Signed - Unique Anachar Basbous was born in 1969 in Rachana, a village of open-air sculpture, in a family of artists: his father, Michel Basbous, was a sculptor, and his mother is a writer and poet. He made his first sculpture at the age of 10 years. He completed his secondary studies in Beirut; then he went to Paris to continue his studies at the ENSAAMA (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d’Art) where he specialized in architectural wall design. His works of art are spread in Lebanon and abroad, in public places, hotels, private residences, and gardens. They are created according to the study of the site, the character, the personality, and the history of its locations. He collaborates with several architects to achieve some projects made-to-measure. His sculptures appear in many private collections as well as in public places in Lebanon, the UAE, France, United States, and Canada. Anachar Basbous works and creates at his workshop in Rachana where he lives.

Glissard : large-scale steel sculpture
Located in New York, NY
A large-scale steel sculpture by Naomi Press. Signed with initials. Naomi Press is a female abstract sculptor, who was one of the very few women working in large scale with steel in the second half of the 20th Century. Press’s art was admired by a well known and respected dealer André Emmerich as well as renowned art critic Clement Greenberg, with whom Press developed a friendship. Greenberg, arguably one of the most influential critics in the second half of the 20th Century, praised her sculptures and encouraged her to work in abstraction. Curators Robert Metzger and Karen Wilkin also wrote about her work. The eminent art historian Edward Lucie-Smith curated her 2011 retrospective in London. Works of Naomi Press are on par with such artists as Beverly Pepper, Claire Falkenstein and Louise Nevlson. Her creations have an imposing presence due to their masterful execution and aesthetic beauty. Naomi Press was born in Poland and later lived in South Africa, England, and USA. This unique blend of cultures informs her art. Ballet is another significant influence in her life and practice. In her youth Press was an award winning ballet dancer and received offers from esteemed institutions such as the Royal Ballet...

Abstract Expressionist Biomorphic Welded Metal Sculpture
By Seymour Lipton
Located in Surfside, FL
Welded, brazed sculpture on wooden base This is not signed or dated This work is unsigned. We were told it was the work of Seymour Lipton but as there is further documentation we are selling it as attributed and cannot guarantee it as such. Seymour Lipton (1903 – 1986) was an American abstract expressionist sculptor. He was a member of the New York School who gained widespread recognition in the 1950s. He initially trained as a dentist, like fellow sculptor Herbert Ferber, receiving his degree from Columbia University in 1927. In the late 1920s, he began to explore sculpture, creating clay portraits of family members and friends. His early choices of medium changed from wood to lead and then to bronze, and he is best known for his work in metal. Like his contemporary, Abstract Expressionist Jackson Pollock, and Arshile Gorky Lipton was influenced by Carl Jung’s work on the unconscious mind and the regenerative forces of nature. He translated these two-dimensional drawings into three-dimensional maquettes that enabled him to revise his ideas before creating the final sculpture. The forms that Lipton produced during this period were often zoomorphic, exemplifying the tension between the souls of nature and the automatism of the machine. He made several technical innovations, including brazing nickel silver rods onto sheets of Monel to create rust resistant forms. Seymour Lipton is best known for his textured torch welded metal sculptures...
