The Geologic Screens Series
The Geologic Screens are studies from the Colorado Cascade Mural. David pieced together bits of the original rock and ice castings to try various combinations. Texture composites were molded and cast in colors that were part of the series of developing glasses for casting natural textures based on the original ice molding at Palmer Station, Antarctica. The guiding principle is to see the layers of texture that in turn, show the time qualities of the environment: universe, geologic and quotidian time—so present when you view these pieces, especially in natural sunlight that alters from moment to moment, and changes with the seasons.
This series of screens is David’s breakthrough in architectural cast glass. Here he created functional art. This allows the individual to feature vibrant sculpture within their home, while also creating a stunning architectural element.
These screens are held in place by a durable steel frame that is powder coated black. The screens have the ability to stand on their own or be bolted for more security. Modifications to the frame are possible at request.

David Ruth is an Oakland, California based glass sculptor that has been making large-scale cast glass sculptures and architectural features for over 30 years. Often featuring bright colors and contrasting polished surfaces with rough textures, the work has been featured in architecture, museums, and in galleries around the world. He holds degrees in History from University of California at Santa Cruz and glass from California College of the Arts. Over the years he has taught various workshops and classes in glass techniques and is considered an innovator in glass casting.
