Black Frond, wall-hanging ceramic sculpture, 12 x 13 x 5 inches, $700 Francesc Burgos is a Spanish-born sculptor and ceramic artist. His master’s degrees in architectural design (University of Barcelona), philosophy (Berkeley) and fine art (University of Utah) reveal themselves in his exploration of internal and external space. “Ceramics has been, since prehistory, about vessels. My interest as a sculptor and ceramist are those structures, natural or human-made, that contain and protect life in its multiplicity of forms, a hard wall around an empty space: shells, hulls, buildings… I am interested in the relationship between interior and exterior space and inspired by music and geometry. I aim for forms that will have a strong presence, and be intriguing, beautiful, proportionate, and harmonic inside and out: the poetics of space.” - Francesc Burgos

I do not consider this process to be anything special in itself. The paintings record the daily random and absurd associations I make, which seem interesting to me after the fact. The Domestic paintings are a case in point. My wife and I have six children. Four have left home. Three are married. We are left with two children, both currently in middle school. We have about five years and they too will move out. This is on my mind. I am thinking about the layers of memories and it comes out as layers of paint. Feeling nostalgic, I think about all the noise and activity our home has absorbed. In turn, I found children’s large vinyl decals from Angry Birds...
