About the Item
Anamorphose II is a unique sculpture by French contemporary artist Frédérique Domergue. This piece is made with oak wood clad in patinated bronze. Dimensions are 43.3 × 11.4 × 4.7 in (110 × 29 × 12 cm).
The artwork is signed, sold unframed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
For nearly two decades, French artist Frédérique Domergue has developed a distinctive body of work that unites metal and rare woods in striking harmony. Trained in traditional woodworking and metalworking techniques under master artisans, she soon forged her own signature approach—particularly her mastery of metal cladding, which has become her hallmark.
Domergue applies thin sheets of metal that embrace the contours of the wood—often sculpted in advance—to form what she describes as a “second skin.” Through this process, she transforms rigid metal into a material that appears supple, tactile, and almost alive.
Drawing on her deep knowledge of diverse metals—bronze, zinc, titanium, steel, among others—she achieves remarkable visual effects. By experimenting with oxidation, she coaxes warm, luminous tones from zinc or bronze, their hues subtly shifting with the light.
Entirely handcrafted, each piece evolves over time, developing a natural patina that reveals new shades and depths. Guided by passion, curiosity, and an uncompromising attention to detail, Frédérique Domergue has created a singular oeuvre that seamlessly blends excellence, innovation, and audacious beauty.

Frédérique Domergue
Fascinated by metal, Frédérique Domergue has developed a unique two-dimensional body of work that draws on both sculpture, through the use of relief, and painting, through the research of different colour shades obtained with oxidation. The artist uses thin sheets of metal applied on wood or aluminium panels. Through a patient process of polishing and oxidation she manages to confer astonishing warmth and sensuality on the metals. Frédérique Domergue finds her inspiration from nature and the seaside. “I have always liked the material – I had to touch it, knead it, transform it, see it evolve under my hand. I’ve always been fascinated by what I could achieve with it.’’
