Gregorio Botta (Naples, 1953) artist of Roman adoption, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome where he attended the courses of the great master T. Scialoja. After his first solo show at the Segno gallery in Rome in 1991, he received great attention from critics on the occasion of various exhibitions, such as Transparencies of Italian art on the silk road curated by A. Bonito Oliva, Beijing, 1993; XII Quadriennale di Roma, 1996; Biennale dei Parchi, National Gallery of Modern Art, Rome, 1998; personal exhibition curated by L. Pratesi, Istituto italiano di cultura, Cologne, 1998. A research on encaustic puts Botta in relationship with wax, a material that will mark his work for a long time. This initial love then led him to create works with glass, lead, iron, and with natural elements such as fire, water, air. The art of drawing with light, transparency and lightness allows him to create increasingly rarefied works that emphasize an art of taking away, and which are placed on the edge of visibility. It is a research of radical essentiality both in the elements and in the forms. His works belong to public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Modern Art, MAXXI, Macro, Rome; Palazzo delle Esposizioni, permanent work, Rome; Madre, Naples; Mart, Rovereto; Musma, Matera; European Community Bank, Frankfurt; Philip Morris, New York.
