Contemporary head sculpture from John Goodman, whose magnetic sculptures, drawings and paintings are a dichotomy of understated minimalism conveying a subtle, but evident smoldering energy. In 'Head No 1, 2017' the artist uses wax and wood, to form an abstracted human head mounted to a found block and fragmented sticks of wood. The moody and provocative sculpture pulls strongly toward abstraction. Clearly, Bay Area influences are present in the work of John Goodman, particularly that of Nathan Oliveira, who the artist was privileged to have had as his mentor.

John Goodman
John Goodman is an American artist born in California. His paintings, drawings and sculptures are a dichotomy of understated minimalism with reductive use of color that conveys a subtle, but evident smoldering energy. Goodman uses thick paint that he sculpts and draws into, as he forms a rich tactile field of painterly surfaces. In his images, there is a strong pull toward abstraction. Bay Area influences are present in his work, particularly that of Nathan Oliveira, who Goodman was privileged to have had as his mentor. Goodman's sophisticated and understated paintings, drawings and sculptures are exhibited coast to coast, have premiered at International Art Fairs and are collected worldwide.

The artistic collaboration of Kelly Bugden + Van Wifvat has produced a thought-provoking body of sculptures, paintings, and constructions. Nature, childhood memories, and everyday archetypes take shape in unexpected combinations of materials.
