About the Item

This red and orange glass wall sculpture is by John Paul Robinson. The ethereal glass work of this Canadian artist has won him acclaim in both Canada and the US. A self-taught glass blower, Robinson uses his medium to explore a heady mix of nature, mythological beliefs and what we’ve learned about the world thanks to scientific discovery. This hand-blown wall sculpture is composed of four slender hollow rods of glass in a deep red and burnt orange. The elegantly curved rods appear to float and gently cascade down the wall. As light shines through them, shadows on the wall add dimension and a sense of movement. The subtle variations in the glass add refined detail and visual interest. “All of my pieces are informed by, allude to, represent or symbolize an aspect of our scientific understanding of how the world works. Science will one day inform a new spirituality.” John Paul Robinson John Paul Robinson was born in Toronto in 1954 and educated at the Georgian College of Arts and Technology and the Ontario College of Art, where he later taught for several years. Robinson is a Fellow of The Creative Glass Center of America, recipient of the Joan Chalmers Glass Award and has twice received the Best Glass Award at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. Robinson has had solo exhibitions in Montreal, Toronto, Palm Beach, Quebec City and Chicago. His works are in corporate, private and public collections throughout North America, including the Canadian Museum of History, the Musée des beaux-arts, Montreal and the Museum of American Glass, New Jersey.
