This wall-mounted relief sculpture by María Magán consists of dozens of compressed forms arranged in a dense, tactile surface framed in classic white wood. Made from professional-grade polyvinyl silicone—the same material used by dentists to take precise molds—each unit evokes a chewed gum fragment, though its origin lies in casts of repurposed condoms. In this piece, part of the Chicles series, Magán constructs a composition of visual noise and intimate texture. The alternating pink and gray elements suggest both candy and skin, desire and residue, playing with the viewer’s perception of beauty, disgust, and humor. Unlike other works in the series that highlight chromatic gradients or rhythmic spacing, this piece emphasizes full saturation—inviting the eye to lose itself in repetition, folds, and material excess. The result is a visual field that oscillates between sculpture and painting, between the clinical and the abject, between pop formalism and sensual irony. Meticulously composed yet unapologetically irreverent, this relief work reflects on surface as symbol and on ornament as a site of erotic transformation.

María Magán
(Galicia, Spain) is a multidisciplinary visual artist and PhD in Fine Arts from the University of Vigo. Her practice explores textile art, painting, and installation, using sewing as a creative process that moves between political activism and poetic recreation. Founder of art collectives and cultural spaces such as La doce and LIBA colectivo, Magán combines artistic creation with cultural project management. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Spain and Portugal, including the Hybrid Art Fair (Madrid) and shows at institutions like the Fundación Museo de Artes de Ribeira. Her sensitive and experimental work weaves new material narratives connecting memory, identity, and territory.
