This wall-mounted pop object sculpture by María Magán features dozens of hand-molded chewing gum-like elements crafted in polyvinyl silicone, a material commonly used in dental practices for taking precise impressions due to its high fidelity and elastic memory. Here, the artist repurposes this clinical compound to model soft, fleshy forms that recall chewed gum or biological residue, installing them across a pastel-painted wooden frame that defines the perimeter of a blank white canvas.
The accumulation of these silicone forms, each derived from casts of reinterpreted condoms, introduces a layered visual metaphor that fuses humor, eroticism, and aesthetic restraint. The dense arrangement along the upper and lateral edges suggests both containment and overflow, while the hollow center leaves room for projection, silence, or interruption. The pastel green, blue, and neutral tones soften the anatomical references, turning objects of aversion into sculptural ornamentation.
Part of the artist’s Chicles series, the work explores themes of taste, intimacy, and transformation through symbolic materials. It merges the languages of minimalist assemblage and conceptual pop, offering a highly tactile and visually dissonant meditation on what is hidden, rejected, or repurposed within contemporary visual culture.

María Magán
(Galicia, Spain) is a multidisciplinary visual artist and PhD in Fine Arts from the University of Vigo. Her practice explores textile art, painting, and installation, using sewing as a creative process that moves between political activism and poetic recreation. Founder of art collectives and cultural spaces such as La doce and LIBA colectivo, Magán combines artistic creation with cultural project management. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Spain and Portugal, including the Hybrid Art Fair (Madrid) and shows at institutions like the Fundación Museo de Artes de Ribeira. Her sensitive and experimental work weaves new material narratives connecting memory, identity, and territory.

IN A WHILE (2025) is a small-scale, wall-mounted mixed-media sculpture by Vera Vizzi that transforms a familiar domestic object into a sculptural encounter. Hand-modeled in foam clay and applied onto a compact wooden block (25 x 9 x 10 cm), the work is finished with layered acrylic paint and enamel marker decoration along the extruded “tube” form.
