About the Item

The baby by Nicolas ALQUIN (born 1958) A bronze sculpture with a nuanced greenish dark brown patina signed on the leg with the monogram "NA" for Nicolas Alquin cast by "Blanchet Fondeur" (with the foundry mark) and numbered "HC2" France circa 1983 height 19,5 cm width 13,5 cm depth 10 cm A bronze cast made after the original work made in gaïac wood. Biography : Nicolas Alquin (born in 1958) is a French artist born in Brussels. He is the son of the painter Pierre Alechinsky. As a sculptor, draftsman, and illustrator, Nicolas Alquin initially studied art restoration and frequented the workshops of sculptors Reinhoud d’Haese and Etienne Martin. He developed his artistic vocabulary using three main mediums: wood (direct carving), beeswax carved and modeled from the block, and sepia or black ink (for brush lavis). In sculpture, some of his works are cast in bronze, Nicolas Alquin is particularly influenced by the impact of tribal art on contemporary art. Through his works, he embodies a reflection on the relationship between the visible and the ineffable. Thus, he readily appropriates so-called "traditional" techniques (primarily direct wood carving and bronze chasing) to imbue them with diverse influences and recontextualize them.
