About the Item
The aesthetic is contemporary; the creation of this imposing outdoor sculpture is due to the collaborative vision of two innovative artists-- Francis Muscat and Mark Puigmarti—Puigcat.
The two experienced Canadian artists—Muscat, a glass artist and Puigmarti, a sculptor have worked together in the last several years to create glass and metal sculptures. Hand forged from weathering steel, and plate glass the geometric and abstracted form of AmaGon is intended, in the artist’s words—‘ to be a metaphorical representation of a super-magnified pixelated human form.’
“The substantial architectural structure is lightened with reflective, refractive elements that gesture to the dream gaze within these watery pools. The glass components are flame cut, which gives the glass a fluid soft edge. Stacking the pieces, and arranging them in with an edge-only perspective, gives the illusion and depth of flowing water.” Puigcat
This sculpture plugs in, and the glass portions are illuminated at night, floating bits of color glowing in the dark.
Frances Muscat was born in Malta in 1955 and studied design at Georgian College in 1975. He also took drawing at Three Schools of Art, glass at the Ontario College of Art and metal fabrication for sculptors at the Ontario College of Art. He has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Ontario. The recipient of numerous awards, Muscat also teaches at the Uxbridge Arts Collective in Ontario and Durham College in the Fine Arts Department. His work including a number of commissions is held in both private and public collections in Ontario.
Mark Puigmarti studied Architectural Technology at Centennial College and attended numerous blacksmithing and design workshops in North America. He owns Sparks Will Fly Forge Blacksmith Shop in Port Perry, Ontario. Puigmarti has participated in a number of group exhibitions and created numerous public art commissions including forging the Larry O’Brien Trophy for the Raptors. His work can be found in many private collections in Canada, the U.S. and Britain.
