About the Item
tabletop sculpture, indoor sculpture, metal sculpture, colorful sculpture; "Planet - Apple" is from a series of tabletop sculptures which address the theme of Climate Change. A group of abstract trees inhabit a section of hilly landscape in these small, round environments. The trees are edged in black patina as a reference to the heating of our planet and the worsening number of wildfires each year. Despite the real threat of natural disasters and rising seas, my Planet series uses optimistic color palettes and a playful array of tree shapes to send a hopeful message that humanity will lessen the scourge of fossil fuels in the atmosphere to keep our planet livable. The materials used are aluminum for the trees and the base, laminated plywood for the hillside, enamel paint and clear coat.

Richard Taylor
Richard Taylor creates in his Milwaukee Riverwest studio. His artwork is both 2- and 3-dimensional, ranging from site-specific outdoor sculpture to paintings on canvas, to the fusion of painting and sculpture. He shows in galleries across the country, and has completed dozens of commissions for corporations, hospitals and municipalities nationwide. Influences on his work include music, poetry, and urban existence. Source material varies from postage stamps, found objects and signage to alphabets, numbers and literature. He plays the saxophone and is very influenced by both jazz and classical music. He served as the artist-in-residence for Quad/Graphics, a national printer, for eleven years, painting huge murals and creating site-specific sculptures. He has taught part-time at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, and continues to be an avid student of Art History. Travel to cultural destinations and time spent living in San Diego serve as influences on his work, as does the agricultural landscape of his native Wisconsin.

Abstract wood Sculpture: "Untitled"
By Kelly Bugden + Van Wifvat
Located in New York, NY
The artistic collaboration of Kelly Bugden + Van Wifvat has produced a thought-provoking body of sculptures, paintings, and constructions. Nature, childhood memories, and everyday archetypes take shape in unexpected combinations of materials. The works emerged as the tactile and visual senses channeled the ritualistic power and materiality of selected artifacts.
The resulting objects exist in a space between what they were originally and what they could become. A wheel, for example, is distorted as if seen through a prism. Their collaboration grew out of years of shaping materials into one-of-a-kind objects. Intuitively, the process of creating with their hands took an inward turn. Prism is a travelogue through memories and dreams, yielding abstract forms that capture moments of transformation.
Van Wifvat grew up with eight siblings and studied sculpture and environmental design in Minneapolis at MCAD. In 1979, he opened a storefront art gallery to promote the work of local artists. The space featured printed materials—art books, periodicals, fanzines, and postcard’s. Wifvat moved to New York in 1983 to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons. In 1987, he co-founded Van Gregory & Norton design studio, specializing in convex mirrors and curtain hardware...
