About the Item
A version of this compelling abstract sculpture was recently installed on a University campus in Indiana. Rob Lorenson’s work can be found in numerous public art venues in North America. The American sculptor creates elegant, superbly crafted contemporary pieces—this sculpture is one of a series that features an inspired version of a beloved symbol. Five X’s and O’s forged from aluminum and painted in a shiny candy red are stacked to create a tower.
“The circle is emblematic of the most powerful shape in nature. The sun, the moon, the center of a flower or the Iris in our own eyes are circular and call attention to themselves. It is a logical shape to use in sculpture for that reason. However, I alter the circle to create the split and the shift in space. That is principally emblematic of the cycles that we live in.” Rob Lorenson
Rob Lorenson was born in Iowa in 1969. He had an early interest in art and sculpture and attended The University of Northern Iowa on an arts scholarship. Graduate school followed at the Northern University of Illinois where he attained an MFA in sculpture. Lorenson has taught art history and sculpture at several US universities, finally landing at Bridgewater University in Massachusetts where he still teaches today. He has always continued his own art practice, has been represented by a number of American galleries and has placed works in more than 300 private and public settings.

Rob Lorenson
Rob Lorenson received his BFA from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and an MFA from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. Since 1999 he has lived and worked in southeastern Massachusetts. His works have been included in several exhibitions, including Pier Walk in Chicago, the Sarasota Season of Sculpture and the Convergence International Arts Festival in Providence. Lorenson's work is included in over 200 public and private collections from small tabletop pieces to 16' large scale sculptures.
