Sara Fine-Wilsons “Tinge” is a gestural 17 x 17 x 8 inch ceramic sculpture in pale cream, light gray and white with iron speckles. In this graceful and evocative sculpture individual slab elements are assembled, layered in glaze in areas while other areas are left bare to highlight the natural color of the clay in a reduced atmosphere. Splits and cracks contrast refined surface areas throughout the piece. Fine-Wilson combines both raw and refined aesthetic qualities in her work by incorporating smooth, glossy, matte, rough and cracked surfaces.
