About the Item
This contemporary sculptural indoor porcelain vessel was made by Susan Collett.
The exquisite hand-built porcelain vessels of Susan Collett have garnered her international praise and attention. Inspired by nature’s forms and colours, Collet’s contemporary artwork explores the idea of strength against fragility. This large creamy white vessel consists of layers of swirling porcelain ribbons. The fineness of the paper clay is so translucent it allows light to filter through it. The exterior is glazed which gives the piece an attractive sheen. One of a series.

Susan Collett graduated with a BFA in printmaking and ceramics from the Cleveland Institute of Art and won the institute's coveted Agnes Gund Memorial Award. She is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics and the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts. Collett is also a recipient of the Winifred Shantz Award from the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. She has exhibited in many international events including The Korean Biennale in 2024, the International Ceramic Art Fair at the Gardiner Museum in 2023, The Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery, in 2023, Paper Clay Illuminated, USA touring 2020-21 and with group exhibitions in Chicago, NYC, Palm Beach and Toronto among others.
Susan Collett's work can be found in numerous prestigious private and corporate collections including the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art in Toronto, the Keramik Kunst Museum in Germany, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Sevres Porcelain Museum in Paris, The Kasturbhai Lalbhai Museum in India and the Canadian Ambassador’s Residence in Washington, DC.

Susan Collett
Susan Collett studied printmaking and ceramics at the Cleveland Institute of Art. She is a past winner of the Winifred Shantz Award and an elected member of the International Academy of Ceramics as well as the Royal Academy of the Arts. While exhibiting throughout North America, Collett has also participated in several residencies, including the Sanbao Art Institute in Jingdezhen, China, 2003 and Fuping, China, 2007. She has had several solo public exhibitions, and her work is in a number of public and private collections.
