About the Item

Inception- 2005 Signed, edition 1/20 green patina bronze on black granite base. Theo Sable was born in 1934, she is on American poet, actress, sculptor, jeweler and painter. Sable was self thought artist influence by her father who was a metal worker and often created metal sculptures. She attended Art Student League in New York, as well was taking a ceramic classes. She always strives for perfection and pays attention to the smallest details. The sculpture is one from a series she created in early 2000. Theo Sable has been creating sculpture and jewelry since she first exhibited her work at the Sculpture Wear Gallery in the Plaza Hotel in New York City in the 1980's. She has shown in galleries from Connecticut to Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Palm Beach and South of Florida as well North Carolina. Her sculptural jewelry has been featured in Playbill, New York Magazine, Jewelers Circular Keystone, and The New York Times, and it is no surprise that she has done well in jewelry shops located in major museums (American Crafts, Bruce, Neuberger, Norton and Palm Springs). Also her very limited editions bronze sculptures sold out very fast at shows and gallery exhibition. Her sculptures in clay and in bronze reflect a sensibility derived from a background in Theatre and Dance. She studied both disciplines at The Neighborhood Playhouse and the High School of Performing Arts. Color plays an important role in much of her work. She combines silver, gold and copper in her larger jewelry pieces, uses rich patinas in her bronze sculptures, and is innovative in her use of alcohol inks on her ceramic plaques. There is an unmistakable vitality to a Theo's art whether it is a painting, plaque, sculpture, or piece of jewelry.
