About the Item

Genesis V is a unique ceramic sculpture by contemporary artist Tien Wen, dimensions are 50 × 15 × 15 cm (19.7 × 5.9 × 5.9 in). The sculpture is signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity. This abstract and minimalist piece captivates with the elegance and clarity of its vertical form. For this Asian artist known for her uncompromising abstract creations: “The sculpture exists by the form and the line, with the fragile balance of the material, it is a minimalist work, the artworks are simple and pure. I turn and return the material until the line tells me I can stop.” Tien Wen uses the traditional Japanese Raku technique — a method of enameling — to craft terracotta sculptures with a distinctive cracked texture and a clean, refined aesthetic. This particular work contrasts the white of the enamel with the deep black produced by iron oxides through a smoking process.
