About the Item

Tyler James Goin is a Vancouver-based sculptor whose work bridges the industrial and the organic through clay and metal. With a background as a millwright machinist and a decade-long apprenticeship with sculptor Tony Bloom, Goin brings technical precision and a deeply tactile sensibility to each piece. His Pacific Northwest Vessel Series is formed from reclaimed stoneware and glaze, inspired by time spent along the shorelines of Clayoquot Sound on Vancouver Island. The layered surfaces echo tidal erosion and mineral sediment, revealing a quiet dialogue between clay and glaze. Each work channels the slow rhythm of the coast, meditative, gestural, and deeply grounded in place. In his Extruded Series, Goin employs a self-built clay extrusion machine assembled from salvaged industrial components, transforming a mechanical process into sculptural expression. Every piece is stamped, signed, and numbered by the artist, and each is a unique, one-of-a-kind work. Goin has exhibited in New York and Los Angeles, and is the recipient of the 2025 BC Achievement Award for Applied Art + Design.
