About the Item

Blossom II is a sculpture in walnut by the Dutch artist Wouter van der Vlugt. Dimensions are 42 × 46 × 46 cm (16.5 × 18.1 × 18.1 in). It is a unique signed piece and it comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist. This sculpture is carved from wood, a material the artist gravitates toward for its natural presence, texture, scent, and tactile warmth. He works exclusively with local woods, selecting each piece for its size, which determines its sculptural potential. He approaches this living material with deep respect: while he shapes it with intention, the wood also guides the process through its own irregularities, contours, knots, and darkened areas. Wouter van der Vlugt’s sculptures investigate the relationship between form, light, and material through a dialogue of solid masses and hollowed spaces that create a sense of movement. In his practice, elegant organic forms drawn from nature coexist with more geometric, almost architectural structures. By carving deeply into the material, he seeks to reveal its inner essence, transforming what begins as a heavy, imposing volume into something unexpectedly light and airy. Born in 1970, Dutch artist Wouter van der Vlugt lives and works in Luxembourg. Since the 2000s, he has exhibited widely in galleries, art fairs, and biennales throughout Europe. His work has been highlighted by major events celebrating excellence in craft and artistic creation—selected in 2017 and 2019 for Révélations, the international biennial at the Grand Palais in Paris, and in 2022 for the Homo Faber exhibition at the Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice. Please note: the sculpture is not attached to a base, and the stand shown in the photograph is not included.

Senza Misura - smooth, polished, abstract, contemporary, mahogany sculpture
By David Chamberlain
Located in Bloomfield, ON
This modern indoor sculpture by David Chamberlain was inspired by music and is made out of mahogany wood. The graceful curves of this contemporary solid mahogany sculpture by David Chamberlain appear in one illuminating perspective to emulate the image of a heart. Hand carved from one piece of this rare wood; the abstract form’s surface is such that the insides become the outsides creating a continuous, enigmatic, integrated form. The naturally rich grain is highly finished with a soft lustre that accentuates the form. Chamberlain’s sculptures...

Abstract wood Sculpture: "Untitled"
By Kelly Bugden + Van Wifvat
Located in New York, NY
The artistic collaboration of Kelly Bugden + Van Wifvat has produced a thought-provoking body of sculptures, paintings, and constructions. Nature, childhood memories, and everyday archetypes take shape in unexpected combinations of materials. The works emerged as the tactile and visual senses channeled the ritualistic power and materiality of selected artifacts. The resulting objects exist in a space between what they were originally and what they could become. A wheel, for example, is distorted as if seen through a prism. Their collaboration grew out of years of shaping materials into one-of-a-kind objects. Intuitively, the process of creating with their hands took an inward turn. Prism is a travelogue through memories and dreams, yielding abstract forms that capture moments of transformation. Van Wifvat grew up with eight siblings and studied sculpture and environmental design in Minneapolis at MCAD. In 1979, he opened a storefront art gallery to promote the work of local artists. The space featured printed materials—art books, periodicals, fanzines, and postcard’s. Wifvat moved to New York in 1983 to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons. In 1987, he co-founded Van Gregory & Norton design studio, specializing in convex mirrors and curtain hardware...
