About the Item

This contemporary purple glass tabletop sculpture is by Cheryl Wilson Smith. Cheryl Wilson Smith is known for her uniquely beautiful glass work—its form, colour and texture are often inspired by the rugged natural beauty of her home and studio in northern Ontario. This current series explores a different narrative that symbolizes life’s joys and challenges. A single ‘bubble’ of translucent purple glass appears deflated and pierced by a metal nail. Light naturally reflects off of and shines through the glass, so it appears to glow from within. The title refers to a popular colloquial expression. “This work is a reminder to each of us who are confronted by the opinions and criticisms of others to consider those perspectives, but to always stay true to our beliefs and follow our dreams. These dreams are important and valuable.” Cheryl Wilson Smith Cheryl Wilson Smith was the 2014 winner of the RBC Award for Glass through the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. Wilson-Smith has received nine grants from the Ontario Arts Council and one from the Canada Council. Commissions include the Red Lake District Heritage Centre and the Margaret Cochenor Memorial Hospital Donor wall. Her work has been exhibited widely across Canada, in the UK and the US.
