About the Item

This exceptional 1960s ceramic pot by renowned 20th-century artist Claude Conover (1907–1994) exemplifies mid-century modern ceramic artistry. Titled Venel and signed on the base, the piece features striking white parallel lines and intricate abstract etchings, showcasing Conover’s signature combination of smooth and textured surfaces. Its elegant form, with a narrow top opening, highlights the artist’s mastery of hand-built stoneware and meticulous craftsmanship. Measuring 16 inches in height and 16 inches in diameter, this bold ceramic vessel makes a captivating statement in any collection, perfect for display as a centerpiece or part of a curated assortment of modernist ceramics. It remains in very good vintage condition. Detailed condition reports are available upon request. Provenance: Private Collection About the Artist: Originally a commercial designer, Claude Conover fully devoted himself to ceramics in the 1960s. A prominent figure in the Cleveland School, he is celebrated for hand-built stoneware that blends polished surfaces with textured abstract patterns, often in off-white tones. Conover exhibited widely across the U.S. and internationally and received the Cleveland Arts Prize in 1983 for his contributions to modern art.
