About the Item

Hand-carved sycamore wood sculpture by the artist Álvaro de la Vega (1954, Lugo, Spain) in 2008. It is part of a series of sculptures of facial expressions. The sculpture measures 40 cm high x 40 cm wide x 30 cm deep. It is currently on display in the exhibition "Álvaro de la Vega and that's it" at the Manolo Eirin Gallery, curated by Manuel Tuset, which traces the entire career of this international sculptor. His works are in private and public collections. He has been exhibiting for over 40 years in various Spanish and international galleries, and at 71 years old, he continues to work. His latest pieces bring an unexpected dimension to his long career in woodworking, recycling rubber from car tires, shredding them, and transforming them into human flesh and bone. He creates solid sculptures, similar to those he used to make in different types of wood, this time in rubber, forging a hybrid between the mechanical and the extraordinarily human. All his work speaks of the unexpected nature of gesture, the presence of the body, and the importance of skin in his sculptures.
