About the Item

This contemporary outdoor figurative sculpture is a metal maple leaf. This iconic image of a maple leaf, a national symbol, was hand-cut by a Canadian artist, Danny Perkins. Working out of his family farm in rural Quebec, Perkins has been creating sculptural art in metal, wood and stone for more than ten years. His inspiration is nature—in theme, and simple form-familiar imagery he’s been around all his life. This is one of a series, masterfully cut from steel and anchored in stone. The single Maple leaf is finely detailed—a silhouette that allows the landscape, the earth and the sky to be seen through it. It appears to be blowing in the wind. “His strength lies in using minimalist lines and giving a lightness effect to his pieces, even though they are made of raw materials such as iron and wood. He designs almost exclusively all his pieces by hand. For him, it is a way to make them more organic and to make them radiate a beautiful positive energy.” Galerie Perkins Danny Perkins grew up on a farm in rural Quebec. A self-taught artist, he began working with metal in 2016, creating both small and large sculptures. He has his own gallery in Quebec where more than thirty artists are represented. Perkins’ artworks can be found in private collections across Canada, the USA and Europe.
