Biography :
Edouard Marcel Sandoz (1881-1971), son of Edouard Sandoz, founder of the chemical and then pharmaceutical company Sandoz, was a sculptor who worked in bronze, ceramics and the direct carving of stone. Born in Basel, educated in Switzerland, Edouard Marcel Sandoz worked mainly in Paris where he settled in 1908. He studied at the School of Fine Arts with Antonin Mercié and Jean-Antoine Injalbert.
Sandoz's motto: "In art, we must love everything, nature, science, ..." His freedom of expression was based on mastery of classical techniques, knowledge of materials, daily search for new tools, openness new areas, study and in-depth knowledge of its models. Sandoz worked various materials, marble, bronze, ceramics.
The animal dominance of his sculpted work led him to give life to the French Society of Wild Animals in 1933. His commitment to the service of his fellow artists led him to preside for more than thirty years the Baron Taylor Association, to found The Work of the Children of Artists and participate in the creation of the City of Arts in Paris. Sandoz's talent and merits earned him in France to be elected Member of the Academy of Fine Arts, and decorated the rank of Commander in the orders of the Legion of Honor and Arts and Letters.

Biography :
Georges Lucien Guyot (1885-1973) known as Georges Guyot was a French animal artist. From an early age, he showed artistic abilities, but the modest conditions of his parents did not allow him to study art. He was doing his apprenticeship with a woodcarver. Guyot then excelled at copying works of the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, but soon he showed a special attraction for nature. This attraction led him to the Jardin des Plantes in Paris where he could study wild animals and translated his observations into sculpture and painting.
As a famous figure of Montmartre, he was the host of the Bateau-Lavoir from the time of Cubism. In 1931, Georges Guyot joined the group of "The Twelve", created by François Pompon and Jane Poupelet, gathering sculptors like Marcel Lémar, Paul Jouve, André Margat, Jean-Claude de Saint-Marceaux, Georges Hilbert, or even the painter Adrienne Jouclard...

Born in Rotterdam, Holland Loet Vanderveen's childhood home was close to the zoo. It was during this period in life that he developed his love for animals. At night he would listen to the sound of the animals in the zoo, and fantasize about African safaris... fantasies which were eventually realized. During the WWII bombardment of Rotterdam the animals were destroyed as well as his home. These events led Vanderveen to a new phase in his life. He escaped occupied Holland for England, and was decorated for valor by Queen Wilhelmia. He served in the R.A.F. during the war.
After WWII, Vanderveen lived in Zurich, London and New York working as a fashion designer. Creatively unsatisfied with his profession he began private ceramic studies with the head of the Far Eastern department of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (Fong Chao). He mastered Chinese...
