This exquisite bronze sculpture of a panther was created by French sculptor Émile Louis Bracquemond. The artist was clearly a keen observer of nature, and he presents the richly patinated panther, in a prowling pose with head held aloft. Incredibly sleek in its form, the sculpture showcases both Bracquemond's artistry and the stylization characteristic of the glamorous Art Deco era. Born in France in the late 19th century, Émile Louis Bracquemond exhibited at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in the 1930s. His works capturing panthers and other felines, such as the present model, are considered among his finest creations.
