About the Item
Goupil is a sculpture by contemporary French artist Éric Valat, depicting a stylized fox poised confidently on all fours. This original work is available in an edition of eight, plus four artist’s proofs, each signed and numbered by Éric Valat. Dimensions are 15 x 33 x 10 cm (5.9 × 13 × 3.9 in).
A graduate of the Toulouse School of Fine Arts, Valat began his artistic journey working with recycled metal objects—materials that captivate him for their hidden stories and past lives. By combining these metals with synthetic and plastic components, he discovered a creative freedom that led him to develop a distinctive bestiary of sculptures. Today, his practice centers on animal figures cast in bronze or polyester. Animated by poetic energy and a sense of movement, these creatures seem to inhabit their own inner worlds, inviting viewers to imagine personal fables and narratives.
Since the late 1990s, Valat has produced over thirty monumental sculptures displayed in both public and private spaces.
“Through all the characters I create, I try to make sculptures that live, that turn, that move,” the artist explains.

Eric Valat
After graduating from the Toulouse School of Fine Arts, Éric Valat began working with recycled metal objects, which fascinate him because of their history. The artist combines them with synthetic and plastic materials, allowing greater creative freedom, and develops a bestiary of unique sculptures. Today, Éric Valat’s artistic production consists of animals created in bronze or polyester. With their poetry and an impetus that seems to animate them, they invite us to tell ourselves stories, and to imagine our own fables. Since the late 90s, the artist has created more than 30 monumental sculptures, exhibited in private and public places. “Through all the characters I create, I try to create sculptures that live, that turn, that move.”
