The Great Bear is a polyester sculpture by contemporary artist Eric Valat, dimensions are 160 cm × 95 cm × 90 cm (63 × 37.4 × 35.4 in). The sculpture is signed and numbered, it is part of a limited edition of 8 editions + 4 artist’s proofs, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

This sculpture represents a seating bear, with its arms on its knees. This functional sculpture of wild animal can be used as an armchair. The bear makes an appearance in Eric Valat's bestiary of scribal vocabulary straight out of childhood. Eric Valat is attempting to reimagine the traditional bear representation in the wake of the wolf and panther benches, which feature fluid and pure lines and extremely vibrant colours. He gently invites you to sit on his knees while seated in his welcoming curves with his nose pointing into the wind.

Eric Valat
After graduating from the Toulouse School of Fine Arts, Éric Valat began working with recycled metal objects, which fascinate him because of their history. The artist combines them with synthetic and plastic materials, allowing greater creative freedom, and develops a bestiary of unique sculptures. Today, Éric Valat’s artistic production consists of animals created in bronze or polyester. With their poetry and an impetus that seems to animate them, they invite us to tell ourselves stories, and to imagine our own fables. Since the late 90s, the artist has created more than 30 monumental sculptures, exhibited in private and public places. “Through all the characters I create, I try to create sculptures that live, that turn, that move.”
