STANDING SEAMSTRESS
Very rare bronze with exceptional figure representation.
Bronze, dark patinated, on a square marble base (H. 3 cm). Total H. 38 cm, W. 14 cm, D. 10.5 cm. Weight approx. 5.13 kg. Monogrammed 'E.S.' on the reverse.
Professor Ernst Seger (1868-1939) was a prominent German sculptor and medallist.
Born on September 19, 1868, in Neurode,
Began his artistic education in 1884 at the Royal Art and Trade School in Breslau studying under Robert Härtel.
In 1886, he joined the master studio of Christian Behrens, with whom he collaborated on early large-scale sculptures.
Spent time in Paris in 1893/94, working in Auguste Rodin's studio and attending the Académie Julian.
Established his own studio in Berlin in 1894.
Died on August 12, 1939, in Berlin.
Exhibitions and Recognition:
Was a member of the Allgemeine Deutsche Kunstgenossenschaft and the Verein Berliner Künstler.
In 1938, he exhibited three bronze sculptures at the Große Deutsche Kunstausstellung (Great German Art Exhibition) in Munich.
Many of his creations were destroyed during World War II.
His grave, adorned with one of his own works, is located at the Südwestkirchhof Stahnsdorf.
