About the Item

Female figural bronze by Etienne Henry Dumaige (1830-1888) of Psyche with lit Oil Lamp, perched on a stump. Her gaze is incredibly striking, commanding the eye of the viewer. The lamp dangles from her fingertips, a small lone flame emanates from the lip. The dynamic drapery of her dress is crisp, defined, and finely casted. Title: "La Nuit" The Night signed H. Dumaige on the base Origin: French Date: late 19th century Dimensions: 25.5in H x 10in W x 12in D Born in Paris in 1830, Dumaige studied sculpture under Féuchère and Dumont. He exhibited his sculptures depicting groups, statues, and busts at the Salon from 1862-1877. . He sculpted a large number of busts, groups and statuettes in marble, plaster and bronze, including statuettes of Desmoulins and Rabelais. He died at St-Gilles-Croix-de-Vié in 1888.
