About the Item

Corpus Christi in argento massiccio, bottega orafa toscana, prima metà del 17 secolo. La figura del Cristo, realizzata a fusione a cera persa e sapientemente rifinita a cesello, appartiene a quella produzione iconografica tardo manierista e proto barocca che fu propria di scultori come Giacomo della Porta (1532-1602), Gian Bologna (1529-1608) e in seguito, per tutto il XVII e la prima parte del XVIII secolo, proseguita da artisti come Pietro Tacca (1577-1640), Antonio Susini (1585-1624) e molti altri artisti romani e toscani. In particolare il nostro Cristo fa riferimento al piccolo Cristo in argento della Santa Casa di Loreto, celebre modello di crocifisso in argento realizzato dalla bottega del Giambologna (Jean de Boulogne), datato intorno al 1573, che divenne il prototipo per una serie di repliche in metalli preziosi e bronzo, caratterizzato da un'eleganza anatomica e un perizoma particolare che lo distinse dai precedenti modelli più drammatici, diventando un'icona della scultura manierista e un prezioso oggetto di devozione privata e doni diplomatici. La figura è quella di un Cristo "patiens", con le gambe leggermente flesse, i piedi incrociati in rotazione interna, un corto perizoma annodato sul fianco destro e la testa quasi di profilo reclinata verso la spalla destra.Calma l'espressione del viso, caratterizzata l'anatomia. Il Cristo d'argento di Loreto è un'opera chiave del Giambologna e della sua scuola, un archetipo di eleganza e proporzione che ha influenzato la scultura religiosa del tardo Cinquecento e Seicento, noto sia per l'esemplare originale che per le numerose e ricercate derivazioni, stabilendo un nuovo canone di bellezza ed equilibrio. L'invenzione è attribuita al Giambologna, ma la realizzazione di molte copie fu affidata ai suoi abili collaboratori: dal 1570 lo studio del fiammingo venne attrezzato per la produzione in serie, sebbene naturalmente tutto il lavoro fosse eseguito con estrema cura da numerosi abili artigiani. Gli esemplari su piccola scala sono numerosi e furono prodotti in serie sia in bronzo che in argento da Antonio Susini, con l'aiuto di altri allievi fra i quali, nel 1581, Adrien de Fries. Sono note diverse varianti compositive, con ulteriori minime differenze nei dettagli, ma nessun esemplare è firmato. Il nostro Cristo appartiene certamente alla produzione di una delle botteghe orafe fiorentine legate al Giambologna e ad Antonio Susini. L'eccezionale qualità del cesello, le proporzioni armoniose, le rifiniture attente ai minimi dettagli non lasciano traccia di dubbio. Ottimo stato di conservazione, piccoli segni del tempo compatibili con l'epoca. Misure H cm 16 L cm 16 Peso 235 gr
