About the Item

The son of an Italian artist, Giuseppe Palumbo was immersed in creativity from an early age, first channeling his vision through architecture and design. Three of his architectural projects were designated national landmarks—monumental functional sculptures that foreshadowed his career as a fine artist. After retiring from international kayak racing in 1992, Palumbo redirected his discipline and focus to sculpture, studying at the Art Students League in Denver, the Bella Artes in San Miguel de Allende, the Florence Academy of Art, and the American Academy in Rome. Palumbo’s whimsical, anthropomorphic bronzes explore the human psyche with irony, wit, and humor. By blending classical sculpting techniques with contemporary subjects, he humanizes animals and objects in surprising ways, urging viewers to identify with his creations and form unexpected emotional connections. From playful figures balancing precariously on ledges to seashells and boats sprouting legs, his work inspires introspection while delighting with spirited imagination. Exhibited widely across the United States, Mexico, Greece, and Italy, Palumbo’s sculptures are represented in prestigious public and private collections around the world, including the private collection of Queen Rania of Jordan. His work has been featured at major fairs and exhibitions such as the Loveland Sculpture Invitational, SoFA Sculpture Show, Santa Fe Art Expo, New York Art Expo, and the San Francisco Art Fair. Palumbo lives and works between California and Colorado, where he maintains a sculpture studio in a renovated Volvo repair shop in the foothills. He is also the founder and director of the Eldorado Springs Art Center, continuing his lifelong commitment to advancing creativity and community through the arts.

Giuseppe Palumbo’s whimsical, anthropomorphic sculptures delve into the human psyche through irony, wit, and humor. By applying classical techniques to his contemporary subjects, Palumbo’s textured and spirited bronzes embody the essence of each being he portrays. The surprising humanization of common animals urges the viewer to identify with the creatures and forge surprisingly intense emotional connection with the artwork, shattering not only the barriers between viewer and artwork, but between human and beast. In addition to Palumbo’s renowned collection of animals, Palumbo pushes the boundaries of the human experience even further with his exploration of shapes and objects. From small people...
