In Project 16, the head is built through horizontal slices that articulate the face as a sequence of stacked volumes, transforming the portrait into a constructive diagram. A single vertical chestnut wood insert interrupts the rhythm of the cement layers, acting as a stabilizing seam or structural hinge that bridges material and anatomical logic. The result is a compact, frontal sculpture that frames the head as an architectural object shaped by assembly, segmentation and surface transitions.
Cast in high-hardness cement using a silicone mold, the sculpture retains the characteristic features of concrete: pores, chromatic irregularities, subtle abrasions and micro-joints that reveal the casting process. Each layer is hand-tinted with water-based pigments and sealed with a semi-matte varnish, enhancing the contrasts between planes. The chestnut wood component, treated with lasur, introduces a warm organic counterpoint to the mineral density of the cement. The mixture incorporates fine aggregates for precise modeling, acrylic fibers to prevent shrinkage cracking and a water-reducing agent to optimize fluidity without compromising structural integrity.

Jose Perozo
Jose Perozo (Vigo, 1978) is a Spanish sculptor with a background in Sculpture from Mestre Mateo in Compostela and Scenic Machinery and Set Construction from Escénica in Granada. His artistic trajectory is characterized by an exploration of the relationship between the human body and architecture, employing an industrial and scenographic language that blends the dreamlike with the structural. Perozo’s work reflects a conceptual approach, using raw materials and forms to investigate themes of identity, inhabitation, and the interplay between the physical and the abstract.
Since 2017, Perozo has presented a series of solo exhibitions that have defined his artistic identity. Notable among these are Bastións, held at the University Church of Santiago de Compostela, and Fragmentaria, developed during his residency at the Eugenio Granell Foundation, where he began to reinterpret the human body as an architectural construct. His work gained international visibility in 2020 with an exhibition at the PO.RO.S Museum in Coimbra (Portugal) and participation in global projects such as the Ibero-American Rotary Club collective exhibition in Portugal. Highlights of his recent career include the solo show ANTROPOTECTURA at Monty4 Gallery (A Coruña) in 2023 and appearances at major art fairs like Hybrid Art Fair and Estampa (Madrid).
