About the Item

Bronze 48 cm hoch signed Jules Moigniez (1835–1894) was a French sculptor best known for his highly detailed bronze animal sculptures, especially birds. Born: 1835 in Senlis, France Died: 1894 Primarily Animalier (animal sculpture), a popular 19th-century movement in French art Mostly Bronze, often using electroplating and intricate surface finishes Birds of prey, game birds, horses, dogs, and equestrian themes Career Highlights Exhibited at the Paris Salon starting in 1855 at age 20. Developed a reputation for exceptionally fine detail, especially in feathers and fur. His bronzes were widely exported to the U.K. and the U.S., where they were popular with collectors of decorative arts and sporting themes. After he became ill later in life, his father managed his foundry and continued casting from his models. He was a student of Paul Comolera (1818 – 1897) , a great sculptor specializing in birds , himself a student of François Rude .
