About the Item
Empire is a work by contemporary Argentinian artist Marcelo Martin Burgos.
Original artwork is limited edition of 6 sculptures and 2 artist's proofs, sold with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
Marcelo Burgos’ artistic universe is firmly anchored in childhood. Children’s dreams and nightmares—filled with fantastical creatures, demons, monsters, and dragons—form his primary well of inspiration. His series The Robots emerged during the global lockdown in early 2020. While organizing online drawing workshops for children, Marcelo Martin Burgos noticed that the image of a robot functions as an avatar in a child’s imagination: an emotionally neutral figure they can project onto during moments of anxiety and uncertainty.
This comforting character also gives the artist the opportunity to build works with a rigid geometric structure while still infusing them with the emotional resonance of childhood.
He creates his sculptures in bronze, a material he values for its nobility and expressive flexibility. Through these pieces, the artist invites viewers to revisit childhood as a “golden age” of freedom, joy, and boundless creativity. As he explains, “My aim is to evoke images and feelings that remind us of the most creative, wondrous, and frightening years of our lives—the ‘golden’ age of childhood.”

Marcelo Martin Burgos
Marcelo Martin Burgos lives and works between Buenos Aires and Madrid. The artist’s golden bronze sculptures are anchored in the childhood universe he is fascinated about. Monsters, dragons, robots and other creatures populating childish imagination are the main subjects of his sculpture activity, also fed by the cinematic production he practices in parallel. Bronze, that he appreciates for its versatility and golden finish, allows him to create mirror-like sculptures that reflect the childhood images and memories of those who look at them. “My work is deeply connected to childhood and gold is a way to exalting children creativity. Childhood memories are golden.’’
