About the Item
The idiot is a polished bronze sculpture by contemporary Argentinian artist Marcelo Martin Burgos. Edition of 6 + 2 artist's proofs.
Marcelo Burgos’ artistic world is deeply rooted in childhood: children’s dreams and nightmares, populated by fantastic creatures, demons, monsters and dragons, provide the artist with his primary source of inspiration. ‘The Robots’ series was developed during the imposed global lockdown at the beginning of 2020. During the set-up of online drawing workshops for children, Marcelo Martin Burgos realized that a robot’s figure is an avatar in the child’s mind. The robot is an emotionally detached character that children can relate to during a time of anxiety and uncertainty. This heart-warming figure is also interesting as it allows the artist to create rigid geometry artworks infused with childhood emotions.
His sculptures are created in bronze, a material he appreciates for its nobility and its versatility. The artist invites the viewer on a journey into childhood, seen as a “golden age” of freedom, joy and creativity: “My aim is to conjure images and feelings that can remind us of the most creative, amazing and frightening years of our lives: the ‘golden’ age of childhood.”

Marcelo Martin Burgos
Marcelo Martin Burgos lives and works between Buenos Aires and Madrid. The artist’s golden bronze sculptures are anchored in the childhood universe he is fascinated about. Monsters, dragons, robots and other creatures populating childish imagination are the main subjects of his sculpture activity, also fed by the cinematic production he practices in parallel. Bronze, that he appreciates for its versatility and golden finish, allows him to create mirror-like sculptures that reflect the childhood images and memories of those who look at them. “My work is deeply connected to childhood and gold is a way to exalting children creativity. Childhood memories are golden.’’

Victor Spinelli was born in New York from and Italian family. Established in Ibiza, he attributes his origins in art to piloting a Hot Air balloon and travelling the world as a photographer. His works range from painting to sculpture and of course, photography. In 2019 he orchestrated the construction of an 8-foot wooden sculpture of my popular photograph “Diver UP” for Burning Man. The sculpture was torched on “The Mans” ashes after he burned to the ground and this symbolized metamorphoses of not only the evolution of Diver UP, but also a demarcation point in his career, thus beginning a new chapter within it. In 2020 he organizes the first edition of the Spin Art...
