About the Item
King Thug is a bronze sculpture by contemporary Argentinian artist Marcelo Martin Burgos. The sculpture depicts a fantastical, humanoid creature with a flaming head, gripping two pistols. The dimensions of the artwork are 100 × 92 × 45 cm (39.4 × 36.2 × 17.7 in). Dimensions of the base 0.15 x 36 x 32 cm (0.1 × 14.2 × 12.6 in).
Limited edition of 8 + 4 artist’s proof, each sculpture is sold with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
Marcelo Burgos’ artistic universe is deeply anchored in childhood, drawing on the realm of dreams and nightmares filled with fantastic creatures, demons, monsters, and dragons. These figures form the core of his inspiration. In his series The Monsters, Burgos blends references from children’s drawings, cartoons, and manga with echoes of African and Toltec sculpture. Rather than evoking fear, his golden-hued creatures recall statues of protective deities—figures that both reassure and console.
His sculptures are cast in bronze, a medium he values for its nobility, versatility, and especially the luminous quality of its polished surface, which reflects like a mirror. This reflective quality invites viewers to see themselves within the work, transforming the pieces into powerful evocations of childhood. As Burgos explains: “My aim is to conjure images and feelings that can remind us of the most creative, amazing, and frightening years of our lives—the ‘golden’ age of childhood.”

Marcelo Martin Burgos
Marcelo Martin Burgos lives and works between Buenos Aires and Madrid. The artist’s golden bronze sculptures are anchored in the childhood universe he is fascinated about. Monsters, dragons, robots and other creatures populating childish imagination are the main subjects of his sculpture activity, also fed by the cinematic production he practices in parallel. Bronze, that he appreciates for its versatility and golden finish, allows him to create mirror-like sculptures that reflect the childhood images and memories of those who look at them. “My work is deeply connected to childhood and gold is a way to exalting children creativity. Childhood memories are golden.’’
