About the Item
Athos is a bronze patinated sculpture by French contemporary artist Marie Louise Sorbac, dimensions are 15 x 12 x 17 cm (5.9 × 4.7 × 6.7 in).
The sculpture is signed and numbered and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Depicting a stylized bull, this sculpture celebrates the raw, majestic beauty of the animal world. The patinated bronze surface gives the piece a distinctly contemporary allure, accentuating the precision and tension of its lines. Reduced to its essential form, the bull embodies strength and freedom through a sculptural language that is both bold and refined.
The term torométrie merges “toro” (bull) with “métrie” (measurement, geometry, structure), suggesting a poetic exploration of form in which the animal becomes the origin of sculptural inquiry. The titles of the works—Porthos, Aramis, and Athos—invite a mythical and symbolic reading, transforming each bull into a character with its own temperament and narrative. These are not simply representations of animals but figures imbued with personality and story.
Marie Louise Sorbac is renowned for her minimalist yet emotionally resonant animal sculptures. Her bestiary, though reduced to pure form, remains deeply expressive and full of warmth. Each creature bears a name, a mythology, and reflects an aspect of the artist herself. The carefully patinated or polished bronze adds an elegance that complements the simplicity of her contours. Sorbac’s works have been exhibited in prestigious venues such as UNESCO and the Argentine Embassy. In 2015, she was awarded the François Pompon Prize at the National Beaux Arts Show in Paris.
“The lines don’t stop at the material—they continue, as if they exist in space, as if they’re dancing, intersecting somewhere beyond.” — Marie Louise Sorbac

Marie Louise Sorbac
Marie Louise Sorbac is renowned for her work in animal sculpture. Minimalist and clearcut, her bestiary is nonetheless warm and touching. Each animal has its own name, its own mythology, and reflects a part of the artist’s personality. The bronze, patinated or polished with great skill, also bestows on these animals an elegance accompanying the simplicity of their outlines. The sculptress had the opportunity to see her work on display in prestigious locations like UNESCO and the Argentine embassy. In 2015, she received the François Pompon award at the National Beaux Arts show in Paris. “The lines don’t stop at the material, the lines actually continue, it’s as if they are in space, it’s as if they are dancing in space, it’s as if they are crossing somewhere.”
