About the Item
Magdalena II is an elegant figurative bronze sculpture by Nando Kallweit.
Tall and elongated, with throws hanging from outstretched arms, this is a beautiful piece. The slender figure stretching upward with graceful elegance has arms extended horizontally, resembling a poised balance or an embrace of space, while two long, rectangular drapes cascade from each arm.
The sculpture exudes a timeless, industrial aesthetic. The minimalistic facial representation and elongated proportions evoke a sense of serenity and abstraction, inviting viewers to contemplate the fusion of human form and artistic expression.
Standing firmly on a square base, it embodies a harmonious blend of modern artistry and classical poise. The piece's unique design commands attention, transforming simple lines into a powerful symbol of balance and tranquility.
Nando carved the marque for the body from a piece of oak using a small chain saw. The marque is then used to make the cavity for a sand and clay cast bronze. The figure therefore retains the cut marks and wood grain of the original carving and give it a very organic feel.
Magdalena II is produced in a small edition of 25 pieces. Nando hammers his mark into the base as well as stamping the edition number.

Nando Kallweit
Nando Kallweit is a German sculptor working in bronze and oak. As a young boy, he was inspired by the beauty and antiquity of a bust of Nefertiti housed in the Egyptian Museum of Berlin. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, his new-found freedoms allowed him to travel to Egypt and develop his belief in the basic strength and pride inherent in inhumanity. His sculptures seek to emphasize this through elongated forms and upright postures. He reduces the figures to simple gestures and movements creating sculptures with a wonderful interplay between the archaic and the modern; between art and design. Nando’s work has been exhibited across Europe and is held in many private collections. He has produced a number of large scale permanent installation pieces for German municipalities and museums.
