About the Item

INSTANT TREE OLIVES (2024) is a sculpture by Czech artist Ondřej Oliva. In this sculpture, the artist works on an important subject in his production, to which he attributes an important symbolic value: trees. Ondřej reinterprets the shape of trees through geometrical stylizing: the tree trunk is limited by straight and precise shapes inside of which unfolds a dense tangle of aluminium branches that is finally freed at the treetop. Crafted from casts of olive wood, Instant Tree Olives embodies the essence of one of the world’s oldest and most symbolic trees. With roots hidden deep beneath the earth, much like faith and tradition, olive trees in Italy stand as silent witnesses to centuries past. Through organic relief, the texture of the olive wood stands in stark contrast to the precise, polished surfaces. The artist sought to merge contrasting materials in a singular artistic vision: polished golden bronze juxtaposes the silvery aluminum. The Czech sculptor, Ondřej Oliva’s artworks are inspired by natural as well as commonplace elements that surround us in everyday life, including certain foods that he revisits to create original sculptures filled with multiple suggestions and references. The choice of material is very important: Ondřej uses bronze or aluminium to give his works a long-term perspective. The aluminium, used in this sculpture, is particularly liked by the artist as it allows him to achieve the highest precision in the smallest of details.
