About the Item

This figurative ceramic and bronze bust sculpture highlights a fragmented surface that evokes repair, continuity and embodied memory. Part of the Xentes series by Spanish sculptor Óscar Aldonza Torres, the work reflects his ongoing exploration of individuality and collective belonging through materially expressive, process-driven forms. The sculpture is built in high-temperature ceramic with porcelain slip and underglaze, yielding a richly textured, stratified exterior. Cracks and seams intentionally emulate the logic of Japanese kintsugi, suggesting that identity is constructed through rupture, restoration and accumulated experience. Emerging from the solar plexus, a small lost-wax bronze figure recalls the archetype of a Paleolithic Venus, linking personal narrative to ancestral memory and symbolic origins. Aldonza’s practice combines direct modelling, experimental oxidation and an interest in psychological presence. In Xente Anaco, the elongated neck, asymmetrical posture and layered glaze work generate a complex emotional field that invites close looking. The piece is unique within the series and can be displayed frontally or at a slight angle to reveal the interplay between ceramic mass, fissures and the inserted bronze figure.
