This sculptural bust combines ceramic head and iron body to emphasise emotional tension and the expressive qualities of material and form. The artwork belongs to the “Aprendices” series, where elderly heads are placed on different bodies—ceramic, metal or mixed media—to question the paradox of learning at an advanced age.
In this sculptural bust, the white-clay head, treated with oxides and smoke firing, contrasts with the open geometric structure of forged iron. The contrast between solid modelling and skeletal framework reinforces ideas of vulnerability, experience and continuous transformation. Óscar Aldonza Torres
Óscar Aldonza Torres (Santiago de Compostela) is a Spanish sculptor working in ceramic, bronze, and mixed media. He studied Volume Techniques at EASD Mestre Mateo, earned a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Seville, and completed an MA in Art Heritage Management at the University of Santiago de Compostela. His work has been exhibited in Spain, Portugal, and France, including the Salon d’Automne in Paris, O Rectángulo de Ouro in Portugal, MIHL Museum in Lugo, and Galería Sabor a Menta in Santiago.
Aldonza’s practice is rooted in expressive, process-driven sculpture, where the human figure emerges through direct modeling, material experimentation, and a strong interest in emotional tension and psychological interiority.
