This expressive ceramic bust belongs to Os Aprendices, a series in which elderly heads are placed atop bodies made of ceramic or iron, proposing a reflection on learning as an endless process. The piece combines high-temperature glazes with copper oxide, while the head is individually modelled and painted in oil, creating a layered tension between material immediacy and psychological depth.
The forged-iron glasses introduce a sculptural accent that reinforces the artist’s interest in hybrid constructions and material dialogue. Surface irregularities, chromatic variations and the physical weight of the bust shape a compelling presence, suggesting the figure as an “eternal apprentice,” continually evolving despite age.
Unique within the series, this work embodies a process-driven approach where gesture, accident and material behaviour actively contribute to the final form.

Óscar Aldonza Torres
Óscar Aldonza Torres (Santiago de Compostela) is a Spanish sculptor working in ceramic, bronze, and mixed media. He studied Volume Techniques at EASD Mestre Mateo, earned a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Seville, and completed an MA in Art Heritage Management at the University of Santiago de Compostela. His work has been exhibited in Spain, Portugal, and France, including the Salon d’Automne in Paris, O Rectángulo de Ouro in Portugal, MIHL Museum in Lugo, and Galería Sabor a Menta in Santiago.
Aldonza’s practice is rooted in expressive, process-driven sculpture, where the human figure emerges through direct modeling, material experimentation, and a strong interest in emotional tension and psychological interiority.
