About the Item

Figurative ceramic sculpture with forged iron elements and hand-painted polychromy, this female bust explores identity, tension and material presence. In this ceramic sculpture, Óscar Aldonza develops his ongoing interest in the expressive potential of the human figure, using figurative ceramic sculpture, polychrome surfaces and forged iron to articulate a powerful investigation into vulnerability and strength. Part of the artist’s Women of Iron series, the work presents a female torso modelled directly in clay and painted with oil layers over a cool-toned ground. Around the neck, a dense coil of forged iron functions both as a structural device and as a conceptual anchor, referencing historical burdens, social restriction and the weight of inherited inequalities. Aldonza’s process privileges direct modelling, visible marks, and material openness. The clay body retains traces of manipulation, while the iron element introduces a contrasting rigidity that expands the sculpture’s spatial presence. The work is a unique piece, signed by the artist, and can be displayed as a standalone sculpture or in dialogue with other works from the series.
