Translucent alabaster head sculpture with expressive natural veins, carved in direct carving for a unique interplay of light, stone and human form.
This unique alabaster head sculpture is carved through direct carving, allowing the material’s translucent structure and its singular network of natural veins to shape the final form. The stone’s variations—ochre lines, soft fractures and cloudy passages—create expressive patterns that become part of the face’s emotional anatomy.
Polished to a satin glow, the alabaster transmits light through its surface, giving the piece an organic, almost breathing presence. Rather than imposing a rigid likeness, the artist lets the stone guide the emergence of the figure, embracing the dialogue between material behaviour, illumination and symbolic resonance.

Óscar Aldonza Torres
Óscar Aldonza Torres (Santiago de Compostela) is a Spanish sculptor working in ceramic, bronze, and mixed media. He studied Volume Techniques at EASD Mestre Mateo, earned a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Seville, and completed an MA in Art Heritage Management at the University of Santiago de Compostela. His work has been exhibited in Spain, Portugal, and France, including the Salon d’Automne in Paris, O Rectángulo de Ouro in Portugal, MIHL Museum in Lugo, and Galería Sabor a Menta in Santiago.
Aldonza’s practice is rooted in expressive, process-driven sculpture, where the human figure emerges through direct modeling, material experimentation, and a strong interest in emotional tension and psychological interiority.
