About the Item
The Balance is a bronze and iron sculpture by contemporary artist Romain Langlois, dimensions are 85 × 110 × 80 cm (33.5 × 43.3 × 31.5 in). The sculpture is signed and numbered, it is part of a limited edition of 8 editions + 4 artist’s proofs, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
The sculpture depicts a figure seemingly compressed and folded in upon itself, balanced precariously on a single elongated limb that ends in an oversized, expressive hand firmly pressed against the ground. The bulk of the body is condensed into a rounded, almost rock-like mass that appears to resist gravity. A smooth, dark bronze patina accentuates the pronounced musculature and layered folds of skin across the figure’s back, lending the surface an organic, tactile presence. On the right side, the partially visible face conveys intense concentration, reflecting the physical and mental tension required to sustain such an improbable posture.
Romain Langlois is widely recognized for his distinctive bronze sculptures, marked by exceptional technical mastery that allows the metal to convincingly evoke materials such as stone or wood. Yet his practice extends beyond technical prowess. Through the meticulous replication of forms and objects—often inspired by natural elements—Langlois introduces a poetic dimension that transforms the familiar into something extraordinary.
His works are held in major collections, including Matmut and the Fondation Bullukian, and have been exhibited in renowned institutions such as the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (2017). In addition, his career encompasses significant international commissions, further affirming his position within the contemporary art landscape.

Romain Langlois
Romain Langlois has become known for his unique bronze sculptures, to which he gives an appearance of a rock or wood. His work is not limited to this technical virtuosity: by reproducing objects that he takes from nature, he introduces a poetic twist that rises the ordinary to the rank of extraordinary. His artworks are part of major art collections (Matmut, Fondation Bullukian) and they have been exhibited in museums such as the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris, 2017). They are also the subject of ambitious international commissions. “Everything is living, everything is moving, everything is changing. However, life cannot always show its best side; sometimes you have to root it out. This is what I am trying to do with my sculptures, gently, discreetly: to search for the life and expose it to those who are going to view them.’’
