Ser Uang Huang depicts a chairman who, in the midst of his busy life, finds a rare moment of rest during a quiet afternoon haircut. His expression is relaxed, his eyes nearly closed, as if he is about to drift into sleep. The rounded form and leisurely posture create a playful yet calming atmosphere that draws viewers in and invites them to share in this lighthearted pause.
The work is carved from Taiwanese Mersawa wood, a native wood cherished for its fine grain, natural fragrance, and symbolic meaning of longevity, stability, and protection in traditional culture. Huang enhances these qualities with soft, natural color gradations that emphasize the texture of his carving marks, adding depth and warmth to the piece.
