The Story:
In "Secret," Taiwanese artist Ser Uang Huang captures a tender, private moment between a figure and nature. The sculpture features a person with a small bird perched trustingly on their shoulder, sharing a silent understanding. The artist draws inspiration from a sweet, whimsical poem he wrote for this piece:
"It has nothing to do with worldly affairs. The little bird on my shoulder knows, And I know too. Not a single word was spoken, Yet chirping away inside the heart, A smile has blossomed."
This work celebrates the internal joy that doesn't need to be explained to the outside world. Ser Uang Huang uses his signature "leaving the knife marks" technique to create a rugged, textured surface that contrasts with the softness of the sentiment. Carved from Taiwanese Camphor Wood, the sculpture features natural color gradients that highlight the wood's grain, bringing warmth and life to this shared secret.
