Imponente scultura neoclassica in marmo, modello conosciuto come Afrodite Louvre-Napoli o Venus Genitrix, bottega italiana, 19 secolo. La dea è raffigurata in piedi, al momento del bagno, nell'atto di sciogliere la tunica di cui tiene un lembo sollevato dietro la spalla; il corpo è avvolto da un leggero chitone senza maniche, movimentato da sottili plissettature, così trasparente da simulare un effetto bagnato, che lascia intravvedere le forme e, scivolando lungo il braccio sinistro, scopre il seno e la spalla. Nella mano sinistra sorregge un vaso di unguento profumato. Nella scultura si riconosce la replica del celebre tipo statuario dell’”Afrodite Louvre-Napoli”, statua greca attribuita allo scultore Callimaco e datata alla fine del V secolo a.C., oggi conservata al Louvre. L’immagine ebbe grande successo e venne riprodotta in copie di vario formato destinate ad ambiti residenziali, funerari o pubblici a partire dall’età ellenistica e soprattutto imperiale. La capillare diffusione in tutte le città dell’impero in prima età imperiale può senza dubbio essere ricondotta all’ampio interesse per Venere quale madre di Enea e progenitrice della gens Iulia. Alcune repliche di età romana sono oggi conservate nei musei romani. La nostra scultura è stata eseguita da una bottega romana nel 19 secolo in marmo bianco di Carrara. Nell'ambito del repertorio neoclassico ottocentesco la figura della Venere Genitrix non è molto diffusa. Si tratta sicuramente di una scultura eseguita su commissione. Scolpita con grande raffinatezza, colpisce per la sua dimensione imponente. In eccellente stato di conservazione, non ha mai subito restauri. Misure H cm 88 L max cm 46 P max cm 26 Base cm 25 x 23,5
