Impressive neoclassical Carrara marble sculpture depicting the Allegory of Friendship and Loyalty, second half of the 18th century.
The sculpture depicts Friendship as a classical maiden wrapped in a wide tunic that leaves one shoulder and breast exposed, at whose feet is placed a dog, a symbol of Loyalty. The allegory of Loyalty and Friendship, already in vogue in the Renaissance, found wide use in neoclassical sculpture. The sculpture has come down to us in its original state, but its beauty has remained intact. The serene and unflappable face of the maiden captivates us with its delicate beauty. Missing and glued parts, wear and tear, and signs of weathering.
