About the Item
In William Hung’s dramatic contemporary bronze sculpture called "The Messenger" a male figure dancer is elegantly balanced on a gently curved arc, one arm extended overhead and the other outstretched holding a small bird. The work is intended to speak to humankind's relationship to nature — one based on balance and harmony. The arc suggests the curvature of the planet Earth, and together with the bird, represents nature. Hung’s figurative work is a compelling mix of both traditional and modern forms that expresses what it is to be human. The physicality of his work is often influenced by a personal interest in the art of dance.
This work will take 8-12 weeks to cast. Purchaser can choose the colour of the patina finish.
The work is sold without a base, but one can be ordered.

Hung studied architecture at the University of Waterloo where he earned a Bachelor of Environmental Studies and a Bachelor of Architecture in 1997. After graduation, Hung relocated to New York City and practiced architecture there and in Toronto for several years. In 2004, he became a member of the American Institute of Architects. He also began creating sculptural works in a unique combination of the figurative and the abstract. In 2015, Hung joined the Sculptors Society of Canada.
Hung’s work is held in private collections in Canada, France and the US.
